I'll take that as a yes.

“I’ll take that as a yes.”
God has been taking things as yeses for me for a long time. “I see you’re very depressed there and would like my love. I’ll take that as asking for it, kiddo.”
“I see you have written a long rant in your journal about how I am treating you. I’ll take that as a request to work in your life.”
“I see you have watched The Sixth Sense again and are scared under your covers. I’m gonna go ahead and pretend you remembered to ask me to take your fear, because I hate to see you like this, my girl. Can we not watch that movie, maybe?”
(Guys, just no on the scary movies. Come on.)
He says, “I see you have coffee, I’m going to assume you need energy and I’ll work on that for you.”
“You stopped using birth control? You must want a baby. I’ll send you another little girl.”
He does so much for us without asking. Making decisions for us. Our hearts, our minds, our bodies.
I’m guessing you do the same with your children. Buy groceries, cook dinner, wash their clothes. Read them books, hug them. Tell them to go to bed so they aren’t tired for tomorrow.
God is that good dad.
A covenant is similar to a contract. You do this and I’ll do this. A marriage covenant- making promises to each other.
But God made a whole new kind of deal with Abraham. He’s like I really like this one dude. He’s a cool guy and he gets me. I’d like to make some promises to him and work with him directly.
He tells Abraham he’s going to give him the world. And Abraham says, “How will I know this will happen?”
God puts Abraham into a deep sleep and tells him His intentions towards him.
A one sided covenant. Unconditional. Like His love.
I see you are asleep, Abraham. I’m going to count that as your half of this deal done.
